The hotel’s present Neo-Baroque building was officially opened in 1894.The hotel is named after its founder Johann Georg Pupp, originally a Karlovy Vary confectioner, who laid the foundations of the local hotel dynasty here.Among the most notable guests were composers such as J.S. Bach, L. van Beethoven, and Richard Wagner; monarchs Franz Joseph I, Peter the Great, and Edward VII; and personalities including Sigmund Freud, Franz Kafka, Morgan Freeman, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, and many others. Film and the hotel are inseparable - not only thanks to the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
